Every few weeks we host a wine evening. This can be a tasting of a particular grape variety or the wines of an interesting vineyard or region, to a wine maker's supper or food and wine matching. These are very popular and are booked up pretty quickly.

We are keen to promote wine tasting to everyone. It is our mission to knock some of the mystique out of the wine tasters' language, as well as some of the hype and snobbery. To that end our events are very informal; we do not tell you what you are supposed to taste, rather we encourage you to develop your own terminology.

We also run a series of annual events such as a lively Burns Supper (complete with piping in the haggis) and the ever popular New Year's Eve black tie party.

Prices are usually from £10 to £25 for a tasting and from £30 to £58 for dinner and wine matching, depending on the theme.

In addition, we organise tastings for groups either here at The Pipe of Port or at a venue of your choice, where we supply all the glasses, wine, notes and a speaker. These events tend to be quite light-hearted and fun. Just get in touch with us for a chat about your requirements.

A full diary of our forthcoming events can be found below. To book simply drop us an email or give us a call.

All our events start at 7.45pm unless otherwise stated.

Classic French & Retro

I was recently in France skiing, and couldn’t get enough of the traditional Fondue in the local restaurants. So, I’ve challenged our chefs to come up with some classic/retro dishes and put their own little spin on them. We’ll pair them up with some bang on classic French wines.

Argentina v Chile

Argentina is now the largest producer in the Southern Hemisphere, overtaking Australia last year, mainly down to the success of Malbec. Chile has quietly worked on its premium wines rather than the cheap, bulk plonk. We’ll put 3 wines from each of these neighbours up against each other to see who’s getting right.

The Wines of BlankBottle

Every now and again, a winery comes along that just stops you in your tracks – BlankBottle did that to us a few years ago. The wines are crafted from small plots of old vines that are not defined by grape variety. Expect blends of old Mediterranean and Portuguese varieties alongside Bordeaux and Rhone Blends, that produce some of South Africa’s most exciting wines.

Food & Wine of the Americas

It may be close to Independence Day, but we’re going to spread our net a little further afield for this supper. Four courses, bringing in influences from the length of the Americas, matched with wines from the USA, Chile and Argentina.
