Piedmont must be one of the most mis-understood wine regions out there. Firstly its most famous product, Barolo, is often thought of as being a big, rich, heavy beast of a wine – it’s not. Nebbiolo (which is variety used in Barolo) is a thin skinned grape variety much like Pinot Noir, so produces elegant yet intense wines. Secondly we associate the region with Reds, but my do they have some spectacular whites, not least in regions like Gavi. We’ll show you 6 examples of stunning wines from the North West, both Red & White.
