Online Wine Tastings with The Pipe of Port

Whilst we can’t host our usual tastings down at The Pipe due to COVID-19 restrictions, we’re going to take our events online (how very modern). We’ll be theming them around countries, grape varieties and themes as usual, as well as our ‘Introduction to Wine Tasting’ sessions. This is how it’s going to work:

  • Sign up to the tasting by clicking on the event below.

  • We’ll send you a confirmation email with a link to our Zoom meeting where we’ll be hosting the tasting.

  • We’ll deliver the samples of the wines shortly before the tasting (usually 8 examples in 150ml bottles which will be enough for 2 people) and tasting sheets.

  • Join the Zoom meeting just before the tasting starts (this can be done on any device with an internet connection) where you’ll be held in a waiting room until we’re ready to go – make sure you’ve got the samples and wine glasses ready to go. We’ll then take you through the tasting as usual.

  • There’ll be opportunities to ask questions about the wines throughout the evening.

  • If you can’t make the live tasting, we’ll be making a recording of each one available for you to view at your leisure. Obviously, you won’t be able to ask us questions as you go along, but we’ll be happy to respond to any questions you want to email over to us.

We often host wine evenings down at The Pipe. This can be a tasting of a particular grape variety or the wines of an interesting vineyard or region, to a wine maker's supper or food and wine matching. These are very popular and are booked up pretty quickly.

We are keen to promote wine tasting to everyone. It is our mission to knock some of the mystique out of the wine tasters' language, as well as some of the hype and snobbery. To that end our events are very informal; we do not tell you what you are supposed to taste, rather we encourage you to develop your own taste and terminology.

We also run a series of annual events such as a lively Burns Supper (complete with piping in the haggis) and the ever-popular New Year's Eve black-tie parties.

Prices are usually from £20 to £40 for a tasting and from £30 to £60 for dinner and wine matching, depending on the theme.

In addition, we organise tastings for groups either here at The Pipe of Port or at a venue of your choice, where we supply all the glasses, wine, notes and a speaker. These events tend to be quite light-hearted and fun. Just get in touch with us for a chat about your requirements.

A full diary of our forthcoming events can be found below. To book simply drop us an email or give us a call.

All our events start at 7.45pm unless otherwise stated.
